Default Gordon's picks : Camels_148Squadron-AmericanAirService

A well known photo of Camels from the 148th Pursuit Squadron USAS at Petit
Synthe on 6 August 1918. The closest machine, D9516, was lost on 26 August,
and the pilot, Lt G V Seibold was killed when his aircraft came down behind
the British lines. Strangely, his body was never recovered, and he's one of
the three subjects in Neil Hanson's recent book The Unknown Soldier. It's
thought likely that a patrol of Camels, from the 17th Pursuit Squadron, saw
Seibold when he was under attack by German aircraft, and his fellow
Americans flew to his aid, only to lose 6 Camels in a big fight.
