Saw one this weekend in a Gar Wood speed boat-circa 20's/30's. Huge
thing with 2 plugs per cylinder, 891 cu in and 316 HP. Layout looks a
lot like the WWII Rolls Royce V12. Just curious if anyone knows if
this engine started life as an aircraft engine and was later modified
for speed boats. Seem to remember a V12 Liberty engine.

thanks

A lot of the old high-performance boat engines were adaptations of
aircraft engines. There is one on Lake Geneva, WI, powered by a V-12
Curtiss Tornado engine, an engine I ahd never heard of before. The
Wrigleys own this one and it still comes out on occasion.
