Default Book question (50s jet)

OK, I was wondering if anyone knew the name of a book here. I picked it up
many years back, bever finished it, and would love to find it. I forget the
title, but figured folks here might know it.

The plot is that a foreign leader wants to assassinate the US President, and
has come up with a plan involving an 1950s era jet fighter, a Banshee or
Panther, I think. The idea is that this plane will be given his nation's
markings, and in a timed sequence of events, he will declare war while the
President is on Air Force One, and send this plane to attack. The idea is
that the pilot, a member of his Air Force who is trained on the rearmed
1950s jet, could then land, surrender at a planned place, and as he was in
uniform the Geneva Conventions would have to apply.

Got about a quarter through, the detail was good.... anyone know this book?
