Navy decides to split Super Hornets between Beach and N.C.

(EXCERPT) By JACK DORSEY, The Virginian-Pilot © July 18, 2003

The Navy's final environmental impact statement on where to base the
East Coast's 144 new Super Hornets recommends splitting aircraft
between Va. Beach and North Carolina, and building a practice field in
Washington County, N.C.

The Virginian-Pilot has learned that the 1,600-page document, expected
to be formally released today, has two ''preferred'' options for the
10 squadrons: Six at Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach and
four at the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, N.C., or eight
squadrons at Oceana and two at Cherry Point....
