Default Fund Raising

Money is a constant problem for any club. We try keep the costs of
flying to a bare minimum and thus are always on the lookout for novel
ways to raise funds for the club. On Fathers Day, we had an open day
aimed at non-members and had over 60 flights. This was coupled to
breakfast and lunch, which added to the funds raised. It was also
excellent exposure for the club and we might even get a couple of new
members joining.

Our newest idea is a luck draw for a biltong cutter. Biltong is salted,
dried meat (like jerky?), which is a South African speciality. It can
be made from beef or game. The meat tends to be very hard when fully
dry (especially game like Kudu or Buffalo) and thus special cutters are
used to cut the meat into bite-sized chunks. One of our members has
made a special cutter from vesconite (a hard plastic used primarily as
a replacement for metal in bearings) that he has donated to the club to
raise funds. Tickets can be purchased on line via the web site
(www.ggc.co.za) for R10/ticket (US$1.50).

What novel ways are other clubs using to raise funds and increase
exposure to their clubs?
