Anyone has an informed opinion on the pros and cons of these two trainers
vis-a-vis each other?

They both appear to be good aircraft, and both have acheived export sales.
The only head-to-head competition between the two that I recall was the NATO
Flying Training comp in Canada, which the Texan II eventually won after IIRC
initial selection of the Tucano. Both companies have also rolled out newer
versions, Embraer with the Super Tucano and Raytheon with the T-6B, both of
which appear to be a bit more weapons capable than the original
platforms--the T-6B has a HUD, IIRC, not sure about the Super Tuc. In
summation, not sure that there is a heck of a lot that separates the two in
terms of reputation or capabilities.

Note that Embraer has a good reputation--it was recently selected to provide
the airframes for the joint US Army/Navy ACS program (ISTR the 145 version).
