Pope Air Force Base airmen honored

Fifteen Pope Air Force Base airmen were awarded medals Friday for
their roles in the war on terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Five of the awards were Bronze Star medals.

About 50 men from the 14th Air Support Operations Squadron gathered at
the new Freedom Park in downtown Fayetteville for a brief afternoon
ceremony. They wore crisp blue uniforms, their trouser legs tucked
into jump boots. The men stood at attention, facing the Cumberland
County Veterans Monument.

One by one, the airmen receiving the awards approached...
