Depends. The global scenery comes on 6 DVDs, not CDs (!) and usually is
sold with X-Plane 8.21 or later. So if the DVD you get at your local store
has X-Plane 8.21 or later, it will be compatible with the global scenery.
If you buy a pre-8.21 version, it will not work.

Not entirely correct. The X-Plane sold in stores is version 8.00. It is not
compatible with the new global scenery, but you can download the latest
upgrade (compatible with Global Scenery) to the latest X-Plane version on
www.x-plane.com
