What weapons for close encounters?

1) You never want to get in a close fight with someone who can turn inside
you or outmaneuver you. Ever watched the MIGs or other fighter jets in an
air show?

2) Missiles don't always work, long range shots may be deflected or dodged..

2) Yes, close encounter is always likely given #2 above.
