The helicopter came in fast and low, barely clearing the tree tops of
the Soldiers and Sailors Grove. The buildings on Commonwealth Avenue
were resonating with the distinctive "whomp, whomp, whomp" that only a
Huey makes.

Deftly touching down in front of an audience of about 1,000 people,
the icon of America's involvement in the Vietnam War dropped in on
Harrisburg yesterday on its way to a Smithsonian Institution exhibit.

Officially designated "America's Huey -- 091," the Huey flew in
Vietnam as a gunship, air ambulance and general transport vehicle
before being shot down for its third and final time.

It will be the single largest item in a Smithsonian exhibit devoted to
America's wars. The exhibit, which will open on Veterans Day, Nov. 11,
will be called "The Price of Freedom." The Huey will next visit the
U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.
