In my opinion, it's well worth the money. ATC is immeasuably better as is
the weather. There are many more airports and the fuel stations now have
pumps.

I'm doing an around the world trip in a Beechcraft Baron using IFR. I
haven't had this much fun since the hogs ate Little Willy!
