Personally, I found OeyEnc (http://www.mutexed.com/code/OeyEnc/) to work
perfectly fine on my machine.
Sometimes, it does not manage to decode all yEnc posts (maybe 10% of the
yEnc posters -not posts, seems to be connected to the person- in here),
but I have yet to experience any negative side-effects.
OE continues to work just as before, only that you can see yEnc pictures.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll give that a try.
