For my purposes I don't need noise reduction
so don't like wearing a full headset. I realize that the plugs need to
be adapted but just wondering if they need to be impedance matched and
if the mic will work.

Depending on the design of your radio, the earphones MAY work. The mic will
definitely NOT work.
