NNS070312-14. Navy Says Farewell to Last Sea King

By Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Stephanie Tigner, Fleet
Public Affairs Center Pacific

CORONADO, Calif. (NNS) -- Sailors from Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron
(HSC) 85 held a decommissioning ceremony for the Navy's last H-3 Sea
King helicopter March 6.

The helicopter departed Naval Air Station North Island en route to
Atlanta to be prepped for foreign military sales.

Just another reminder of how old I am:-)

I have about 30 minutes total flight time in three H-3 flights...two
at NAS NI and one in Pensacola, each during during DWEST en route to
duty stations in Okinawa, Hawaii and Spain.

I think I have more time bobbing on the water waiting for them to show
up than I do actually riding in them.

Glad I never needed to wait for one in the real world...and glad they
showed up for the training events.
