Thanks, the Antenna mfgs say the paint is important and each antenna is
designed to compensate for it. But, I'm inclined to agree with you. This
antenna is only there to receive one low frequency and do it when the
antenna is right under the airplane. I'll give it a light coat of urethane
and then be sure to test it out.

Most paint should have no effect on the marker beacon (which operates at a
fairly
low frequency). The "Do Not Paint" warning is primarily for the
microwave stuff
like GPS antennas.
