Saw that one of my former JOs in VF-126, "Juice Butler" took over this unit.
But what is it? How related to the Strike school in Fallon? Is it a bonus
command or a twilight tour??

Pechs,

Don't know "Juice" per se. I'll ask around tomorrow.

Strike Fighter Weapons School Atlantic (SFWSL) and its PACFLT counterpart
SFWSP are the two units that run Strike Fighter Advanced Readiness Programs
(SFARP... platform specific, squadron-level tactical refreshers just like
FAARP or MAARP in the old days) and administer Strike Fighter Weapons and
Tactics (SFWT) tactical upgrade check rides.

The CO jobs at these outfits went from bonus commands to twilight tours when
the TOPGUN changed its course to the longer Strike Fighter Tactics
Instructor (SFTI) course and adopted the SFWT program. As I understand it
(rumor from last week... not confirmed), the job is now a bonus command tour
again--which is, in my opinion, the way it oughta be.

Strike at Fallon turned into the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center (NSAWC)
about 9-10 years ago when they moved TOPGUN to Fallon. NSAWC still runs air
wing Fallon dets and administers TOPGUN (N7) as a department (i.e. the
"skipper" of TOPGUN is now an NSAWC Department Head for their post-CARGRU
Rear Admiral).

Probably a lot for you to digest.
