Default Pober Junior Ace Accident

What a bummer, Glad nobody got hurt, maybe a testament to the aircraft
design. Ken Terrio's airplane was beautiful it was the 2003 Plans
built grand
champion. Hope Ken can get it all back together. Here is the NTSB
preliminary.

NTSB Identification: NYC05LA139
14 CFR Part 91: General Aviation
Accident occurred Saturday, August 27, 2005 in Oxford, CT
Aircraft: Terrio Pober Jr Ace, registration: N37KT
Injuries: 1 Uninjured.

This is preliminary information, subject to change, and may contain
errors.
Any errors in this report will be corrected when the final report

has been
completed.

On August 27, 2005, at 1315 eastern daylight time, an amateur built

Pober
Jr
Ace, N37KT, was substantially damaged during a forced landing

following a
loss of engine power near Oxford, Connecticut. The certificated private
pilot was not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no
flight plan was filed for the flight which originated at the Albany
International Airport (ALB), Albany, New York, and was destined for the
Goodspeed Airport (42B), East Haddam, Connecticut. The personal

flight was
conducted under 14 CFR Part 91.

According to the pilot, he was flying at an altitude of 3,500 feet, just
northeast of Waterbury-Oxford (OXC) airspace when he observed a loss of
engine oil pressure, followed by a "clicking" sound coming from the
engine.
The propeller then stopped turning, and the pilot immediately turned
toward
the OXC airport for an emergency landing. He then realized that he

did not
have the gliding distance to make the airport, and selected an open corn
field to perform a forced landing. Upon touchdown, the airplane bounced
"hard" and continued down the sloped field, until it impacted trees.

Examination of the engine by a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
inspector revealed a fractured connecting rod bearing in the number 3
cylinder.
