I'm actually using an Icom A20.

However if I can find a source for a slim gooseneck
I can change the Microphone insert to suit whatever
radio.
My problem is that the goosenecks that are readily
available seem much fatter than the Icom HS15 used
to be

Which model of ICOM are you trying to work to? The
microphone
arrangements for the A3E/A22 are different from the
legacy models
(A2/A20). The HS15 would work with the A2 or A20 but
probably not to an
A3E or A22.
