The travel trailers in the US tend to be larger than the caravans used
in Europe and England and to have multiple axles, and so have electric
brakes. Easier to keep working right, I assume, and probably cheaper.
Smaller trailers (usually utility trailers like you might rent to haul
furniture) use surge brakes, and the smallest ones have no brakes at
all.
