Gliders in the US that are licenced in the experimental
category, like most ASW-20's, may make modifications
without the factory permission. As for winglets on
16,6 tips, a local pilot added M&H Maughmer winglets
to his Ventus B, 16.6 tips and he is quite happy with
much improved climb and handling performance.

Well, the ASW20 with 15m and winglets has been measured
to 41:1, and I
honestly don't think that an additional meter in span
will bring you 3-4
points (the difference between ASW20 15m and 16.6m
ist just one point).
Apart from that, I haven't heard of any ASW20L with
winglets fitted onto the
extended span, and you probably would have to contact
Schleicher to get
their ok.

In relation to the ASW20L extensions , do you know
of anyone having the extensions with winglets on or
perhaps shortening
them to where the extended control surface ends and
putting winglets on to compensate
I would think that would boost the LD to 44-45 plus
give the handling
improvements with winglets,
The reason I think it could work well is the 20 wingtips
are big broad
paddles at the end and the tendency is for that type
of wingtip to get the
most benefit from the conversion.
