In the 70s early 80s every ultralight/microlight had provision for floats...
increased drag and lowered airspeed would take them from a fun machine

I agree. The power avialable in an ultralight isn't that huge. Not
sure how the early float planes did it with early engines but they may
have had a higher ratio of torque to go with their hp.

It looks like a fun airboat/ul cross though, in an area where boating
is big, one could airboat around and do hops. With the hull it looks
more like a boat that can make it into the air than a pontoon-hulled
plane.

Some "standard" boats get airborne when they go too fast but that's
another thread.
