Go to www.loran.org, and click on the March 2004 Newsletter....the USCG and
FAA have signed onto an agreement to retain Loran C as a backup to GPS.

Small world. I went to an interesting talk at a NASA conference last
week http://spacecom.grc.nasa.gov/icnsconf/2004/NASA_ICNS_Conf_2004_Agenda.pdf
on GPS/Loran. The co-author gave the presentation and interstingly
enough is the president of ILA and is also from Locus. The SatMate
1030 http://www.locusinc.com/satmate.html (spec:
http://www.locusinc.com/pdf/2004SatMate1030Sheet%20with%20Logo.pdf )
is the unit they're prototyping for aviation applications. There's a
definite push to not only retain Loran but also to bring it into the
digital age

Jon
