i always like how brits will claim they designed it. it was a pure north
american aircraft corp design. the brits first bought it and they get
credit
for the merlin engine, but even those were made here by packard and
improved upon.

They never claim they designed it, but they did issue the specs. How could
Packard ever improve a Merlin?
