I went to an interesting talk at a NASA conference last week http://spacecom.grc.nasa.gov/icnsconf/2004/NASA_ICNS_Conf_2004_Agenda.pdf on GPS/Loran. The co-author gave the presentation and interstingly enough is the president of ILA and is also from Locus. The SatMate 1030 http://www.locusinc.com/satmate.html (spec: http://www.locusinc.com/pdf/2004SatMate1030Sheet%20with%20Logo.pdf ) is the unit they're prototyping for aviation applications. There's a definite push to not only retain Loran but also to bring it into the digital age Regards, Jon |

Good presenter and a nice guy, too. I'm not a LORAN guy by any means, but he mentioned that a 9th pulse is being added. My understanding is that it's a requirement for timing now that any station has the potential to be a Master. Regards, Jon |
