Default Pay as you go (Was AirNav not publishing fuel prices)

Somebody pointed out in one response to this thread that when you add up
all the "nominal" fees we shell out as pilots, pretty soon the total
ain't so nominal anymore.

There are lots of services out there (not just aviation related) that
I'd like to use but I can't justify given the amount of use I'd probably
give them. Wireless network access via my cellphone is a good example.
I'd love to have that when I travel, but I just don't travel that much.

If more vendors could come up with reasonable "pay as you go" plans for
their services they might make more money. I'm not pointing to AirNav,
it was just that thread that got me thinking.
