Garmin GPSmap 196 on 172 Yoke
Hi,
Planning to put a GPSmap 196 for backup in my Cessna 172 I would like to know whether somebody has mounted a 196 on the 172 yoke? May I learn about the mounting used - original Garmin or OEM hardware like RAM? Any drawbacks or pros experienced with either gear? Otto Braasch (EDML)

I tried both, the original GARMIN yoke mount and the RAM device. I
prefer the RAM solution, very stable. The Garmin original is not so adjustable and the screw-knob is at the bottom, so it conflicts with my knees, eg when flaring to land. In general, mounting the 196 on the 172 yoke is possible, personally i prefer the big RAM suction cup for mounting the gps unit just above and next to the glareshield. Just my two cents Frank

Thanks Frank. My 196 and also the RAM mount have arrived today.
