light situation as described, surely the warning and braking should

I thought the DOT wants to remove all non essential electronic
devices or make the manufacturers turn them off when the car
starts to move.

You are thinking correctly, but I don't know what you are referring to.
Surely, not the safety device in the article that warns you a car is
about to T-bone you if you don't brake quickly?

Why warn you that you're about to be T-boned if you don't apply the brake?
Considering reaction time, why not just have the system apply the brake for
you? Besides, warning you will interrupt your sending of that text
message...

Sometimes, after reading some of the threads the past few months, I
wonder if soaring as a sport, is going to be a video game with pilots
sometimes looking outside to see if the actual terrain and weather is
as accurate as the screens and feeds they are using.
