Other CDROMs work fine,

It has big problems reading many of my old CDs and I have to revert to my old machine, sharing out its CD drive. I've been told this is because there are two technologies used for CDs these days: pits in a metal layer, and photographic "pits". The latter is common because it is very cheap. |

None of the above. Borrowed a portable and it works fine, but the sound is terrible. |
