I thought the psychological screening for astronaut selection would have
washed out anyone who lost their cool under stress. I wonder how it missed
this example?

But I believe Margot Kidder's issue was a chemical imbalance caused by
not taking her meds. I'm sure that condition would prevent holding a
class 3 medical, and likely prevent you from being in the space
program.

Agreed, unless her mental issues didn't manifest themselves until later;
Howard Hughes being a classic example.
