My current home base (a busy Delta airport, which also has a turf
runway) is the temporary base for the Met Life blimp, in town for a
PGA tournament.

Last night, may co-owner calls me from the tie down (in the dark), and
the following conversation ensues:

Him: Check it out! There's a killer new wind sock!

Me: Huh?

Him: It's cool! It's got Snoopy on it, and it's totally lit up!

Me: That sounds like the Met Life blimp! I have ML insurance, and
Snoopy is on everything they send me.

Him: No way, this thing is rotating to show the wind direction, and
it's all lit up! It's HUGE, they must have gotten sponsors for the
wind sock! This think has got to cost big bucks!

Me: Dude... The PGA is in town, and it's the blimp...

Him: Ohhhhhhhhh! There's a thing hanging off the bottom!

Me: Like there the pilot sits? G

Him: It's not a wind sock!!

scratching head Only place I can think of with turf is Mansfield
1B9. Last time I went in there (about a year ago) the turf strips was
closed. Oh yeah, Katama on the Vineyard is grass too...

Those folks share a frequency with MMK and the Hudson River VFR
corridor. In the Meriden pattern you get to hear "jumpers away,
Pepperell!" and "a trip around the lady" walking on your leg
announcements. G

Northeast jump center, I forgot about that! A fellow named Shattuck
(WATO) owned the whole deal up there. When I was knee-high to an
elephant, my Dad stored his boat in Shattuck's bahn. We went up to
retrieve the boat one warm Spring day my Dad commenting "nice day for
shots", Shattuck replied "shots come out of a gun".

Have a great one!
