A Really Good Wave Cloud Pic
While in NZ last year I was struck by how a tagline for NZ is "The Land
of the Long White Cloud", yet I could not find in any tourist spot or museum a really good, poster size lenticular image. One lady at the Auckland museum said, "It's a myth!", whereupon I corrected her with the explanation of what it is and how it supposedly helped the Maori people to find land (and I'm from California). The best I could do was to walk into the Met building in Wellington and buy one of their 2005 calendars. Now this is not meant to be disrepectful to our Kiwi friends, I really enjoyed my time there. But it got me thinking of where I could find a really spectacular lenitcular image suitable for framing. Recently I was in Bishop, CA and in the compact lobby of the airport, I found the following image: http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group...c=gr%26.view=t and commented to the county worker, "I need to find the guy who took this photo!". Whereupon the guy said, "I took that photo!". I bought it from him on the spot for US$60 and am having it framed. The image does not have any text on it, unlike this thumbnail. So my point is, does anyone else know of a spectacular wave cloud image that is available for purchase in a large frame format. The most, MOST impressive picture I know of is hanging in the lobby of the Omarama, NZ gliderport lobby. It is a 1m x 1m or so image of the Taireipet wave cloud in black & white. Cheers, Kemp |

Kemp,
When I was in Bishop a few years ago, there was a gallery of the photography of Galen Rowell and his wife Barbara. Both were killed in an aircraft accident. One "long cloud" image can be found at http://mlstock.com/fs.shtml?bin/Search2?Keywords=wave There were several other photos in the gallery. See: http://www.mountainlight.com/ I am sure there are many other photos of wave clouds that can be found. I was in Lone Pine last weekend and found other strking images of the wave clouds spawned by the Sierra Wave. While I've made some 28 wave flights out of Cal City and soared my 1-26 to 28,300 feet, I still have not been up on a day where there were "classic" lennie's stacked up. Enjoy your search for photos; they ARE out there! Then again, maybe you'll be taking a few in the next couple of months! -Pete |

None of those are the images Kemp is talking about. The one he is talking
about is close to a 180 degree panorama. David Grah Bishop, California wrote in message oups.com... http://silentflight.com/wave_cloud.jpg Heres one for you... Al |

Finding wave cloud pictures. I just learned today
about finding pictures on the web. After you make a google search on a subject and get some hits, instead of looking at each in turn just go to the choices directly above the google window (where you typed in your subject) and click on 'images.' This will pull out pictures from all the sources google found and put them on a page for you. Maybe most everyone else knows this.
