Where can I find information about Displacement Gyros?

I do have several avionics books, but in non of the books is the term Displacement Gyro. I know that it must be something like a DG or VG , and it measures a Displacement. What is it used for? -- Otmar Bender email: http://www.jar66.de http://www.easa66.com |

I've never heard of a displacement gyro. |

In the radio controlled heli scene there are heading hold gyros, which could be described as displacement gyros I guess? They try their best to be absolute devices (so they apply rudder until the tail is where it's supposed to be, rather than simply resisting movement) - it's done in software - effectively doing an integration on the output from the actual gyro... I've never heard of a displacement gyro. I believe a displacement gyro is a position gyro to be differentiated from a rate gyro like a turn & bank or turn coordinator. So the horizon and DG would be likely displacemnt gyros. The more common name is "Position Gyro." Bill Hale |

Displacement Gyros I saw an add where they are offering Directional Gyros Vertical Gyros Rate Gyros and Displacement Gyros There must be a difference! The Displacement Gyros cannot be only a DG or VG. -- Otmar Bender email: http://www.jar66.de http://www.easa66.com |
