Alaska pihots are so used to landing on ice covered runways in zero
visibility with 40 knot sidewinds, they head south to experience
landing where they can actually see the runway.

Kinda throws 'em; my sister flew Alaska to Tucson a couple years back,
stopped in Phoenix on the way and he hit the runway so hard the flight
attendant came on and announced that was just the first bounce; the
next one would be at TUS...

Actually, it was flying west for a week's trip to see the Grand Canyon,
Monument Valley, Sedona etc. Of course, Tucson was too close to miss the
opportunity to visit the Pima museum and the Davis Monthan boneyard. I spend
the winters in Florida and the trip west was another item ticked off on my
bucket list.

Cheers,

I took Alan's comment as referring to the plane, not you! :-) (AS fly into
Phoenix from both Seattle and Portland according to the map on their
website, I did wonder if they had expanded into offering Mexico from Phoenix
but it seems not).

Graham got it. ;-) I thought both the aircraft and its passengers were
trying to avoid the Alaskan cold.
