In the USN the SB2U "Vindicator" or RN "Chesapeake" had been withdrawn from active combat duty taking on a trainer role until 1945. The RN it seems came to similar conclusions in 1941 relegating the SB2U-3 to a training role with the Swordfish taking on the SB2U-3 combat work load. They did see combat in the Battle of Midway, and were used ineffectively by the French before the surrender in 1940. -- Regards, Savageduck |
