Hi everyone-The thread on airport identifiers is getting a little long, so I
thought I'd start a new one. There doesn't seem to be any standards for naming airports, except for what the local pols dream up. JFK is obvious of course, and O'Hare is named after a Medal of Honor winner. (Posthumously I believe) But what about the current trend for naming airports after still living politicians. Ronald Reagan Naational, for Washington National. Mineta International for San Jose Municipal. Yes I know they called in International, but it always will be Muni to me. Then there was the attempt to name San Francisco International (SFO) Joe DiMaggio Field. Joltin Joe played his big league career with the NY Yankees. He did marry Marilyn Monroe in the City. I could vote for calling it MM International with a big picture of her over the entrance. The airport itself is in San Mateo county, One of the two Bart trains to it is marked "Millbrae." It wouldn't surprise me if some one proposes it be called Williie Brown International as soon as he leaves office. (Da Mayor now) There must be a lot of other similar silliness out there.
