Lindbergh was one of the greatest natural pilots. When they built a flying
replica for the movie they discovered that the thing was unstable to the
point of being unmanageable. It was super demanding just to keep it in
normal flight, straight and level.

I am still wondering how he could even stay
awake for the 40 plus hours involved, much less
concentrate on flying and navigating and landing.
