I am in the market for a new glider again
Hi guys,
I am in the market for a new glider again. I am currently flying a Genesis 2 (2013) with a partner. I am looking for a glider for myself to start competing a little more. I am looking at the following gliders and would appreciate some input: PIK20D - wing mold profile problem Ventus A and B - I easily fit in the A 5'10 150lbs - may not be in price range ASW 20 - not much wrong but still expensive DG 300 - standard ship but not bad performance I am not a high time pilot but have 700 hrs in a hang glider, 600 hrs in private plane (complex single) and about 130 in a glider. I have quite a few flights over 300k one flight of 500k in the Genesis. Jeff Runciman |

Jeff Runciman For the $$ the best price/performance/handling is the LS-3. Talk to JJ he has one for sale. The ASW 20 is great if modified with good winglets, same for the Ventus A and B. If most of your flying will be dry or ridges go with the ASW 20, if western running with water the Ventus is a good choice. The PIK is a good ship but different and will be harder to sell and the wing suffers in wet conditions. The DG 300 is nice but does not perform as well as the LS-4 and Discus and usually is higher in price than the performance would suggest for racing. My $0.02 |

Jeff Runciman Check out asw-20 owners yahoo group for info on '20s. A community of several hundred nice, enthusiastic, mostly knowledgeable people and one old sorehead (who is less enthusiastic, but still knowledgeable). Hard to provide specific input in response to very general inquiry. DG, PIK suitable for handicap comps. Ventus and 20 can be competitive in 15m at regional level. Ventus and 20 are very different despite similar performance. You should understand differences before you buy! Advance warning... you'll run into a certain "Ford vs. Chevy" bias here. For any glider... and especially an old glider... understand what support is available (and what isn't) if/when you need help. -Evan Ludeman / T8 (ASW-20B) |

They are said by everyone to not win contests, and I have no reason not to believe that is true. They are VERY comfortable, very easy to fly, hate to spin, don't much like to stall either, just a really fun and easy ship. So, if it is winning you are after, I expect you will look to other gliders. But if fun and safe and easy to fly are more important keep it on the list. Safe = predictable, easy stall when they stall, can take off with the canopy AND the spoilers unlocked without a problem, auto hook-ups. Brian |

Me too, I love the DG300. We have some of them at the club, and Discus and Discus2. I chose to fly the club class with the dg300. It is much more comfortable than the discus, it has the same performance in glide than a discus , granted. But it does NOT climb like a discus in weak thermals. Discus is like an automatic gear car. DG300 is manual gear. Over Discus, dg300 has 2 advantages: 1- an higher wheel if you do an outlanding. 2- a 25kmh slower speed for landing. For the same price or something similar, of course it's better to get a discus, but if you get a cheap DG300 you are going to get a nice machine! paolo "brianDG303" ha scritto nel messaggio ... Jeff Runciman The G104 Speed Astir II offers very good performance for the dollar. However, I think you'd be taking quite a step backward in handling and performance after the Genesis II. |

Jeff Runciman why not get a stanard cirrus, libelle, asw 19, LS-1 or something like that and fly in US club. its a blast, most of those gliders you can have a ton of fun in both on any given saturday or at a national contest, and the price is right. |
