I've seen several pics of the Max 7 with something attached to the tail...so far
I can't find any explanation.

....any reasonable guesses?...I'm leading to an antenna of some kind but for what
purpose...

Default About the Boeing 737 Max 7 test flights - max7fftakeoff.jpg

It's a trailing cone for calibrating static pressure. Used in flight
testing, for RVSM certification, etc.
