Default Medical and Sport Pilot

Hello
I have a friend that took flight training about nine years ago , went for
his 3 rd. class physical and ended up having by-pass surgery , talked to him
this eve. on Ham radio and he wondered what it would take to go with the
Sport Pilot rating , I told him that I thought he would have to have any
issues with his failed physical cleared up before he could fly with the SP
privilege , am wondering exactly what the procedure will be , I told him
that he my need to take a new physical , any thoughts on this would be
appreciated .
Phil
