If you are going to Mt Rushmore (a big disappointment if you do not have a long lense), head on over to Devil's Tower in Gillette Wyoming and see the UFO landing site featured in CLOSE ENCOUNTERS. As for Mt Rushmore, the viewing area is so far from the rock face, it looks nothing like the close up photos in the advertising. Hmmm. Well that would explain why my brother reckons the Badlands was better. |

But there is a walking trail that puts you right under their noses! Takes a
half hour or 45 minutes round trip. Jack G. As for Mt Rushmore, the viewing area is so far from the rock face, it looks nothing like the close up photos in the advertising. |

There's the upper walking trail which will take you to the entrance of the memorial vault. The vault is sometimes opened to visitors and has all kinds of memorabilia inside. Say, Glenn, you are coming over from New Zealand? Why not a bunch of us who are in the area meet up with you and yours at some central place like the SAC Museum and have an eye-ball get together. I am sure if you post your times of visit enough in advance, those of us who are independently wealthy -- errrr, I mean retired military -- can drive up, down or over to meet up .. should be a fine party!
