Taking the proverbial "Golden BB" from above in an A-1 is not all
that surprising if you look at the hilly, mountainous terrain in the
far north and northwest of Vietnam.

Or if you bother to consider that combat flying over any terrain is rarely
done with much wings level time, especially attacking and pulling off of
bomb or gun runs.

The bad guys are going to see as much of the top and bottom of your aircraft
as anything else.
