I've decided to blame my LCD monitor. I attempted a test card on the
one at work, and it did not need calibrating the way I had it set. In
fact adjusting the brightness control to any level left me able to see
5% and 95%. The one at home has such a narrow brightness range that I
am forced to dim the screen using the graphics card, which isn't doing
it very well.

Never use a long word when a diminutive one will do.
