This is the Dauntless SDB that crashed in Lake Michigan in 1944. It was
recovered last month and is now at the National Naval Air Museum in Pensacola for restoration. Right now there is a tarp under the aircraft to catch pieces and parts that have come loose. In addition to the pieces and parts one finds lots of mussels and shells on the tarp. They figure it will take three years to restore the aircraft. It will then go to the museum in New Orleans. |
