The southeast U.S. is in the midst of an historic drought. How dry is
it? Well, we had two weeks of continuous glider flying at Cordele, GA, including a Regional contest and a Nationals, AND Frank Paynter was there, and it DID NOT RAIN! |

Well I think Frank left all the rain up here in north :-( Another solid week of rain forecast here in WI. Pete |

In eight days of racing at the Standard Class Nationals the slowest winning speed was 71.5 mph. This fastest was 81.5. For Cordele, for any contest east of the Mississippi, that's one for the record books. Robin Robin |

Especially when one considers that this was down in the thick air, not up at 14000' like in the western US. |

The plains are verdant green and the mountains are white. The snow pack is 4x normal for this time of year. Very beautiful - but not too good for OLC flights. We're celebrating the first day of Summer by turning on the furnace and breaking out ski jackets. Yesterday it was 87F. All is normal. |

Wally, That's OK, my jinx bypassed Cordele (thank goodness!) but it caught up with me again here at Caesar Creek - 3 solid days (so far) of rain :-( TA |
