Hmmm that could be fun. I'm thinking of adding some small stabilizing device
(cardboard fins?) next time I try this.

Interesting perspective...great idea! It would be great to have another facing the towplane, synchronize the videos, and put them on a split screen together...easy for me to say!

Brad.

How was the camera mounted?

How far from the hook was it?

I'd assumed it was strapped to the rope with wing tape or similar a few
feet away from the tug's hook and that the rolling was due to the rope
twisting under tension.

If the camera is attached to the tow rope via wing tape, it will twist with the rope no matter what fins you put on. You would have to devise a ring of some sort that rotated freely.

Cool video. A camera angle I have never seen before.

Many (30+) years ago, a photographer at Booker thought it would be good to
take pictures of a K13 on tow, from straight ahead (the tow rope). So he
fashioned a Styrofoam box - with stabilising fins - to house a motordrive
Nikon and attached this to the tow rope. The compbination took off, did its
stuff and came back - without the styrofoam box and the camera. It hasn't
(AFAIAA) been found yet!
A much less expensive exercise nowadays with cheap digital keyring cameras
etc.!
