Default Sony HD Action camcorder -- viable (and cheaper) alternative to GoProand Reflex?

Lots of fans on RAS for GoPro and Reflex, but Sony has a similar offering that's cheaper:

If you want cheap, Big Lots sells an Emerson ActionCamcorder for $40.
There are at least 10 makes of these
cameras out there. Search Action Cam on Amazon.

These action/bullet/POV cameras are all over the place now.

Here is the Contour, a high end unit I just saw at Best Buy. $200-
$400.

That being said, the GoPro Hero seems to have the most accessories,
models and following.

The main thing that differentiate GoPro from the rest is the wide angle it provides, nearly 180 degrees. This is what contributes to the signature look of gopro pics and videos. Otherwise your iphone 5 camera will provide excellent results as well.

170 degrees is common on this type of camera, such as the JVC unit I
linked to.
