I wonder if anyone has ever soared in this combination.

It's looks a bit marginal VFR but certainly an amazing photo! :-)

We have a resident Icelander in Moriarty, NM. He's the holder of the
soaring endurance record in Iceland. Of course, they don't accept
endurance claims any more. He did it many years ago.

Beautiful Picture.

The sun has been very active the latest weeks and I have been trying to spot the Northern Light several times. But as with vacation and soaring weather is the northern light and the weather phased but with 180 degrees out of sync.

Stunning photograph!

With three winters of military flying in interior Alaska as far north as
Dead Horse, I never saw the northern lights while flying. Many times
from the ground, but never in flight. What a disappointment.

Credit to the photographer

This also confirms that this is Iceland. The photo was mis-attributed where I first stumbled across it.

Amateur photographer Daniele Boffelli (Italy) is easily found on FB.
I wrote to him how his his photo caught the heart of international glider pilots.

Fingers crossed for a nice ranking in the NG photo contest.

cheers,
