How many non flying pilots interested in Sport Pilot?
Has anyone taken a poll and gathered numbers on people interested in Sport
Pilot now that it is official?

Gilan,
I start my sport pilot training this weekend. I can't wait! It's tough to
find instructors right now, most are very confused as to the new rule. But
one in this area has taken the time to actually clear it up with the FAA and
is offering the initial training. The written test is not done yet but is
expected by November. But hey get those flight hours in if you want too!

Personally I think so, with 15 hours of flight instructor flying and then 5
hours of solo time you can get the sport license. Then you just need to add
time with an instructor to get the PPL. You can train in the same planes
that you will get your PPL in (single engine), but to do your sign off
flight and solos it has to be in a sport class plane. So to me it is a good
way to be able to fly the sport planes while you continue to work on the
PPL. So not only are you getting to have fun flying earlier but you also are
getting alot more flying time in as experience, and I have no doubt this
will make anyone a better PPL when they do finish up with that.

Currently waiting on special issuance and when that expires will probably go
sport pilot because of the "Red Tape" of the PPL. I just want to fly!

Would she have a qualifying Sport Aircraft available to fly? Today, there
are not many of these planes on rental lines. Remember, the "Cezzna" 152 is too
heavy. If you don't have anything qualifying for her to fly, what good would
the license be?

That's a good point, as I think that the answer (at least today) would be
"no".

PPL since '82. Didn't want to jump through the hoops for special
issuance. So SP suits me fine. I will probably go fat UL as
Experimental.

Another question, how many qualified sport pilot planes are tricycle gear? Looks like many are tail draggers. Will sport
pilots be better at landing?
