No mention of the NTSB report. My suspicion is that the "pilot" failed to gain sufficient airspeed to maintain flight. :-) |

(AP) - Florida Highway Patrol says five young men are dead today after a car they were riding in crashed after traveling off an airport runway. The runway is at the exclusive "fly-in" community of Jumbolair Aviation Estates. The crash at the community, which is also the home of actor John Travolta, happened at about 3:45 a.m. According to a preliminary FHP investigation, a 2008 gray BMW with 5 occupants, ages 18 to 20, was traveling at a high rate of speed on the airstrip. The victims have been identified as 18-year-old Joshua D. Ammirato of Fairfield; 19-year-old Dustin J. Dawe also of Fairfield; 19-year-old James Devon Hime of Anthony; and 19-year-old Jacob James Casey and 20-year-old Isaac Rubin, both of Ocala. 4 of them were former students at North Marion High School. Casey graduated from Trinity Catholic High School. He went on to play football for Jacksonville University. Copyright 2008 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
