Here's more info from http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/local/7678796.htm
FORT WORTH - A twin-engine Piper Apache plane taking off Friday from Hicks Airfield struck a hangar and two old Navy show planes before crashing just off the runway. The pilot and two passengers weren't seriously injured, authorities said. "I looked out the window and saw an airplane coming right at me," said Neil Anderson, who was in a hangar office. "The wing was probably six feet from my head." Witnesses said the four-seat plane, which took off to the north about 3:45 p.m., angled to the right about 15 seconds after takeoff, Tarrant County Sheriff's Sgt. C. Eckart said. Witnesses said the right engine appeared to stall. The airplane wasn't gaining altitude, said Steve Candler, a commercial pilot who watched the takeoff. As the airplane drifted right, "the pilot pitched up to try and get above the building," Candler said. "He just couldn't get the altitude, and he went right into the side and then to the ground." But before hitting the ground, the Apache struck two North American T-28B Trojans, training planes formerly used by the Navy, parked in front of the hangar. The Apache clipped the tails off both. Anderson, co-owner of the trainers, said each is worth about $250,000. The planes are flown in air shows across the country. "This isn't something you want to see," Anderson said, looking at the planes. The Apache's occupants -- two men and a woman -- were being interviewed by Federal Aviation Administration investigators, Eckart said. "They were lucky to make it out of this," he said. -- -- =----- Good Flights!
